A few memories of Auntie Marie from the 1950's

Created by Richard 3 years ago

I lived at 7 Fairway from when I was born in 1952 and (my honorary aunt) Auntie Marie lived next door.  Uncle Bish worked at the Westminster Bank and even had to work on Saturday mornings!  I seem to remember that he cycled to work but I'm not certain about that.

When I was about seven my family moved to Springfield and Auntie Marie and her family later moved to 327 Baddow Road.  My mother, Joan Jarvis remained good friends with Auntie Marie for the rest of her life.  But I have only a few memories of the house in Fairway and the people - it was a long while ago.

I remember Auntie Marie being nice and having a sense of humor:  once she had run out of Asprins and borrowed from my mum.  My mum had an almost full bottle of Boots asprins, a large bottle, 500 when full.  Auntie Marie returned the bottle, almost empty as a joke and pretended she had needed them all!  (The rest got returned later)

I remember when I was small wiggling between our garage and Auntie Maries garage and getting stuck!  Much ingenuity and patience by both mummies was needed to get me out!  I also have a vague memory that Auntie Marie kept chickens at the bottom of her garden - but I'm not sure, maybe it was someone else.

To finish I attach four pages from the Developers leaflet showing what our houses were like - you may enjoy reading the details which quite amazing by 2020 standards!

God bless you all at this time of social distancing, thinking of you all at this time
